Description

Ethiopian Raw Spiced Beef is a flavorful dish made with finely chopped beef and a blend of spices, perfect for serving with injera or pita bread.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound of high-quality beef (sirloin or tenderloin), finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon sea salt
  • 1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1 teaspoon coriander powder
  • 1 teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 teaspoon cayenne pepper (to taste)
  • 1 tablespoon extra virgin olive oil
  • 1 small red onion, minced
  • 1 tablespoon freshly squeezed lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon freshly chopped parsley (for garnish)
  • Injera or pita bread (for serving)

Instructions

  1. Start with a fresh cut of beef, ensuring it’s chilled. Use a sharp knife or food processor to finely chop the beef and transfer it to a large mixing bowl.
  2. Sprinkle in the sea salt, black pepper, cumin, coriander, smoked paprika, and cayenne pepper. Use your hands or a spatula to mix the spices thoroughly into the beef until well blended.
  3. Pour the extra virgin olive oil over the spiced beef and add the minced red onion. Combine everything together, ensuring the onion is evenly distributed throughout the mixture.
  4. Drizzle the fresh lemon juice over the mixture and fold gently to incorporate. Taste the mixture and adjust the seasoning if needed.
  5. Cover the bowl with a lid or plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes to let the flavors develop and intensify.
  6. Once ready to serve, transfer the spiced beef to a serving platter and garnish with chopped parsley. Pair with injera or pita bread for a delightful meal.

Notes

  • For a milder taste, consider reducing or omitting the cayenne pepper.
  • Incorporate diced avocado or chopped tomatoes for added freshness and texture.
