Description

Egyptian Kofta with Mint Yogurt Dip is a must-try dish that combines flavorful grilled meat with a refreshing yogurt dip.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 pound ground beef or lamb
  • 1 small onion, finely grated
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 cup plain Greek yogurt
  • 1/4 cup fresh mint leaves, finely chopped
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. In a large bowl, combine the ground beef or lamb, grated onion, minced garlic, parsley, cumin, coriander, cinnamon, salt, black pepper, and cayenne pepper (if using). Mix well until all ingredients are evenly incorporated.
  2. Divide the mixture into 8 equal portions and shape each portion into a long, oval kofta. You can also mold them around skewers if desired.
  3. Preheat a grill or grill pan over medium-high heat. Lightly brush the grill with olive oil to prevent sticking.
  4. Grill the kofta for about 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until they are browned and cooked through.
  5. While the kofta is grilling, prepare the mint yogurt dip by combining the Greek yogurt, chopped mint, lemon juice, garlic powder, salt, and pepper in a bowl. Mix well and adjust seasoning to taste.
  6. Once the kofta are cooked, remove them from the grill and let them rest for a few minutes before serving.
  7. Serve the kofta warm with the mint yogurt dip on the side.

Notes

  • For a spicier kick, add chopped fresh chili peppers to the kofta mixture.
  • Serve the kofta with pita bread and a side salad for a complete meal.
