  • 1 pound pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 pound Italian sausage, casings removed
  • 1/2 cup sliced bell peppers (any color)
  • 1/2 cup sliced mushrooms
  • 1/2 cup sliced black olives
  • 1 can (28 ounces) crushed tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried basil
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh basil leaves for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). Grease a 9-inch deep-dish pizza pan with 1 tablespoon of olive oil.
  2. Roll out the pizza dough on a lightly floured surface to fit the pan. Press the dough into the bottom and up the sides of the pan. Trim any excess dough hanging over the edges.
  3. In a skillet over medium heat, cook the Italian sausage until browned, breaking it up with a spoon as it cooks. Drain any excess fat and set aside.
  4. Spread the ricotta cheese evenly over the bottom of the dough. Layer the mozzarella cheese on top of the ricotta.
  5. Add the cooked sausage, bell peppers, mushrooms, and black olives over the cheese layer.
  6. In a bowl, mix the crushed tomatoes with oregano, basil, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Pour the tomato mixture over the toppings in the pan.
  7. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese on top of the sauce.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 30-35 minutes, or until the crust is golden brown and the cheese is bubbling.
  9. Remove from the oven and let it cool for about 10 minutes before slicing. Garnish with fresh basil leaves if desired.
