Description

A rich and indulgent Dark Chocolate Mousse Cake that combines a moist chocolate cake with a light and airy mousse topping.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips (70% cocoa or higher)
  • 1/2 cup heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare an 8-inch round cake pan by greasing and dusting it with flour.
  2. In a spacious bowl, combine the granulated sugar and softened butter, beating them together until light and airy.
  3. Incorporate the vanilla extract and mix until well blended.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is thoroughly mixed in before introducing the next.
  5. In another bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, cocoa powder, baking powder, and salt.
  6. Gradually fold the dry mixture into the creamed butter and sugar, stirring gently until just combined.
  7. Melt the dark chocolate chips in a microwave-safe bowl, heating in short bursts and stirring until smooth. Allow to cool slightly.
  8. Gently fold the melted chocolate into the batter.
  9. Transfer the batter into the prepared cake pan, smoothing the surface with a spatula.
  10. Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  11. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before moving it to a wire rack to cool completely.
  12. While the cake is cooling, whip the heavy cream in a separate bowl until it forms stiff peaks.
  13. Carefully incorporate the whipped cream into the cooled cake to create a mousse topping.
  14. Once the cake has cooled, evenly spread the mousse over the top and refrigerate for at least an hour to set before serving.

Notes

  • Ensure the dark chocolate used is at least 70% cocoa for the best flavor.
  • Let the cake cool completely before adding the mousse topping for better texture.
