Description
Crystal Bread Toast with Pickled Sardines and Citrus is a delightful appetizer that combines the crunch of toasted bread with the tangy flavors of pickled sardines and fresh citrus.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 loaf of crystal bread (or any crusty white bread)
- 1 can (4.5 oz) of pickled sardines
- 1 medium orange, zested and segmented
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1 teaspoon honey
- 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Optional: red pepper flakes for heat
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Slice the crystal bread into 1/2-inch thick slices.
- Arrange the slices on a baking sheet and brush both sides lightly with olive oil. Toast in the oven for about 8-10 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
- While the bread is toasting, prepare the citrus topping. In a small bowl, combine the orange segments, lemon juice, honey, and chopped parsley. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
- Once the bread is toasted, remove it from the oven and let it cool slightly.
- Top each slice of toasted bread with a few pickled sardines and a generous spoonful of the citrus mixture.
- If desired, sprinkle with red pepper flakes for an extra kick. Serve immediately.
Notes
- For a twist, try adding thinly sliced radishes or avocado on top of the sardines for added flavor and texture.
- Substitute pickled herring or smoked salmon for a different seafood experience.
