Description
Crispy Parmesan Onion Ring Chips are a delicious and addictive snack that you’ll crave forever!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 large onion, sliced into 1/4-inch rings
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
- 1 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 cup breadcrumbs (preferably panko)
- Vegetable oil, for frying
Instructions
- Begin by soaking the onion rings in buttermilk for at least 30 minutes. This will help tenderize the onions and enhance flavor.
- In a large bowl, mix together the flour, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
- In another bowl, combine the grated Parmesan cheese and breadcrumbs.
- Heat vegetable oil in a deep skillet or frying pan over medium heat until it reaches 350°F.
- Remove the onion rings from the buttermilk, allowing excess to drip off. Dredge each ring in the flour mixture, shaking off any excess.
- Dip the floured rings into the Parmesan and breadcrumb mixture, pressing gently to adhere.
- Carefully place the coated onion rings in the hot oil, frying in batches to avoid overcrowding. Cook for about 2-3 minutes per side, or until golden brown and crispy.
- Transfer the fried onion rings to a paper towel-lined plate to drain excess oil.
- Serve immediately while hot and crispy.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add cayenne pepper to the flour mixture or sprinkle some hot sauce into the buttermilk.
- Try using different types of cheese, such as cheddar or mozzarella, for a unique flavor twist.
