- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 1/4 cup heavy cream (optional, for extra creaminess)
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, whisk together the sugar, cornstarch, and salt until well combined.
- Gradually add the milk to the dry ingredients, whisking continuously to prevent lumps.
- Place the saucepan over medium heat and cook the mixture, stirring constantly, until it begins to thicken and bubble. This should take about 5-7 minutes.
- Once thickened, remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and butter until fully melted and incorporated.
- If using, stir in the heavy cream for added richness.
- Pour the pudding into individual serving dishes or a large bowl. Cover with plastic wrap, pressing it directly onto the surface of the pudding to prevent a skin from forming.
- Refrigerate for at least 2 hours or until set.
Notes
- For a chocolate version, substitute 1/4 cup of cocoa powder for 1/4 cup of sugar.
- For a fruit-flavored pudding, add 1/2 cup of pureed fruit (like strawberries or mango) after removing from heat.
