  • 3 to 4-pound whole turkey, thawed
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 tablespoons fresh rosemary, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh thyme, finely chopped
  • 2 tablespoons fresh sage, finely chopped
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 cup cranberry sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/2 cup chicken broth
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme

Instructions

  1. Begin by setting your oven to 325°F.
  2. In a mixing bowl, blend the softened butter with the chopped rosemary, thyme, sage, garlic powder, onion powder, and a generous pinch of salt and pepper until creamy.
  3. Using paper towels, gently dry the turkey. Lift the skin over the breast and thighs to create pockets for the herb butter.
  4. Spread half of the herb butter mixture beneath the skin and smear the remaining butter all over the outside of the turkey.
  5. In another bowl, combine the cranberry sauce, chicken broth, olive oil, apple cider vinegar, and dried thyme. Mix well and pour half into the turkey cavity, saving the rest for later.
  6. Position the turkey on a roasting rack inside a roasting pan and roast in the preheated oven for approximately 2 to 2.5 hours, or until a meat thermometer reads 165°F in the thickest parts of the breast and thigh.
  7. Every half hour, baste the turkey with the reserved cranberry sauce mixture.
  8. After roasting, take the turkey out of the oven and allow it to rest for 20-30 minutes before carving.

Notes

  • For an extra crispy skin, raise the oven temperature to 375°F during the last 30 minutes of cooking.
  • Incorporate some orange zest into the cranberry glaze for a refreshing citrus note.
