Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb fresh green beans, trimmed (or 2 cans of green beans, drained)
  • 6 slices of bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 cup brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Optional Add-Ins:

  • Red pepper flakes (for heat)
  • Maple syrup (as a sweetener alternative)
  • Toasted nuts (for a vegetarian version)

Instructions

  • Cook the bacon until crispy, then crumble and set aside.
  • Blanch the green beans in boiling water for 2-3 minutes, then transfer to an ice bath.
  • In a skillet, sauté garlic in reserved bacon fat. Add brown sugar, soy sauce, and butter, cooking until thickened.
  • Toss green beans in the sauce, then transfer to a baking dish.
  • Top with crumbled bacon and bake at 350°F for 20-25 minutes.

Notes

  • You can make the sauce and green beans ahead of time and bake them just before serving.
  • For a stovetop-only version, simmer the green beans in the sauce for 5 minutes instead of baking.
