Description

Creamy, cheesy, and comforting, these classic scalloped potatoes are made with thinly sliced potatoes baked in a rich, flavorful sauce. Perfect for any occasion!


Ingredients

  • 45 medium russet or Yukon Gold potatoes, thinly sliced
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 3 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups whole milk
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • Fresh parsley or chives for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  • Preheat oven to 375°F. Grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
  • In a saucepan, melt butter and sauté onion until soft. Add garlic and cook for 1 minute.
  • Stir in flour and cook for 2 minutes, then gradually whisk in milk. Cook until thickened, about 5 minutes.
  • Stir in cheese, salt, and pepper.
  • Layer half of the potatoes in the baking dish and pour half of the sauce over them. Repeat layers.
  • Cover with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove foil and bake for another 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  • Let rest for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

  • Use a mandoline slicer for even potato slices.
  • For extra richness, use half-and-half or a mix of milk and cream.
