A refreshing dessert delight featuring the unique combination of citrus and basil in a creamy panna cotta.


Ingredients

  • 2 cups heavy cream
  • 1 cup whole milk
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin powder
  • 1/4 cup cold water
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • Zest of 1 lemon
  • 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Pinch of salt

Instructions

  1. In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over the cold water and let it sit for about 5 minutes to bloom.
  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, orange zest, lemon zest, and a pinch of salt. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is hot but not boiling.
  3. Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the bloomed gelatin until fully dissolved. Add the chopped basil and vanilla extract, stirring to combine.
  4. Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a large measuring cup or bowl to remove the basil and zest.
  5. Pour the strained mixture into individual serving cups or ramekins.
  6. Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until set.
  7. To serve, you can garnish with additional basil leaves or a citrus segment if desired.

Notes

  • For a fruitier twist, add a layer of berry compote on top before serving.
  • You can substitute the basil with mint for a refreshing alternative.
