A refreshing dessert delight featuring the unique combination of citrus and basil in a creamy panna cotta.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups heavy cream
- 1 cup whole milk
- 1/2 cup granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon unflavored gelatin powder
- 1/4 cup cold water
- Zest of 1 orange
- Zest of 1 lemon
- 1/4 cup fresh basil leaves, chopped
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
Instructions
- In a small bowl, sprinkle the gelatin over the cold water and let it sit for about 5 minutes to bloom.
- In a saucepan over medium heat, combine the heavy cream, whole milk, sugar, orange zest, lemon zest, and a pinch of salt. Stir until the sugar dissolves and the mixture is hot but not boiling.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the bloomed gelatin until fully dissolved. Add the chopped basil and vanilla extract, stirring to combine.
- Strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve into a large measuring cup or bowl to remove the basil and zest.
- Pour the strained mixture into individual serving cups or ramekins.
- Refrigerate for at least 4 hours or until set.
- To serve, you can garnish with additional basil leaves or a citrus segment if desired.
Notes
- For a fruitier twist, add a layer of berry compote on top before serving.
- You can substitute the basil with mint for a refreshing alternative.
