Description
Delicious and easy-to-make Cinnamon Date Rolls that are perfect for any occasion.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup pitted dates, chopped
- 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a baking sheet or line it with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, salt, and ground cinnamon.
- In another bowl, cream the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the butter mixture, alternating with the milk and vanilla extract, mixing until a dough forms.
- Fold in the chopped dates and walnuts (if using) until evenly distributed.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and roll it into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Brush the surface of the dough with the beaten egg.
- Starting from one long side, roll the dough tightly into a log. Pinch the seams to seal.
- Cut the log into 1-inch thick slices and place them on the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 15-20 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
Notes
- For a sweeter roll, drizzle with a simple icing made from powdered sugar and milk after baking.
- Substitute the walnuts with pecans or omit them entirely for a nut-free version.
