Ingredients

  • 4 large egg whites
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • Green food coloring
  • Edible glitter or sprinkles (optional)
  • Mini chocolate chips or star-shaped candies for decoration

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 200°F (93°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, beat the egg whites with an electric mixer on medium speed until frothy.
  3. Add the cream of tartar and continue beating until soft peaks form.
  4. Gradually add the granulated sugar, one tablespoon at a time, while beating on high speed until stiff, glossy peaks form.
  5. Mix in the vanilla extract and a few drops of green food coloring until you achieve your desired shade of green.
  6. Transfer the meringue to a piping bag fitted with a star tip. Pipe small tree shapes onto the prepared baking sheet, starting with a wider base and tapering to a point.
  7. If desired, sprinkle edible glitter or sprinkles on top of the meringue trees for extra sparkle.
  8. Bake in the preheated oven for 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the meringues are dry and can easily lift off the parchment paper. Turn off the oven and let the meringues cool completely inside for an additional hour.
  9. Once cooled, decorate the tops of the meringue trees with mini chocolate chips or star-shaped candies.

Notes

  • For a festive touch, use different colors of food coloring to create a variety of meringue trees.
  • If you don’t have a piping bag, you can use a plastic sandwich bag with a corner snipped off to pipe the meringue shapes.
