Ingredients

- 2 ½ cups sweetened shredded coconut
- ¾ cup sweetened condensed milk
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ¼ teaspoon almond extract (optional)
- Pinch of salt
- 2 large egg whites
- ¼ teaspoon cream of tartar
- ¼ cup granulated sugar
- 4 oz semi-sweet or dark chocolate, melted (for decoration, optional)
- Sprinkles or crushed candy canes (for decoration, optional)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 325°F (165°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix together shredded coconut, sweetened condensed milk, vanilla, almond extract (if using), and salt.
- In another bowl, beat egg whites and cream of tartar until soft peaks form.
- Gradually add sugar and beat until stiff peaks form.
- Fold the egg white mixture gently into the coconut mixture until fully combined.
- Drop spoonfuls of the batter onto the baking sheet.
- Bake for 20–25 minutes, or until golden on the edges.
- Let cool. Dip bottoms in melted chocolate if desired, and decorate with sprinkles.
Notes
- Ensure the egg whites are at room temperature for better volume.
- Store macaroons in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
