- 2 cups phyllo dough, thawed
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup walnuts, finely chopped
- 1 cup almonds, finely chopped
- 1 cup dark chocolate chips
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- 1 cup sugar
- 1 cup water
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 cup Parmida Chocolate Spread
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F.
- In a bowl, mix together the finely chopped walnuts, almonds, dark chocolate chips, and ground cinnamon until well combined. Set aside.
- Brush the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
- Place a sheet of phyllo dough in the dish and lightly coat it with more melted butter. Repeat this layering process, adding a total of 8 sheets of phyllo, each brushed with butter.
- Evenly distribute a portion of the nut and chocolate mixture over the phyllo layers.
- Add 2 more sheets of phyllo on top, brushing each with butter.
- Continue layering, alternating between the nut filling and phyllo sheets, until all filling is used, finishing with 8 layers of phyllo on top.
- Carefully cut the assembled baklava into diamond or square shapes with a sharp knife.
- Brush the top layer with any remaining melted butter.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
- While baking, prepare the syrup by combining sugar, water, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then simmer gently for about 10 minutes.
- Remove the syrup from heat and allow it to cool.
- Once the baklava is done baking, pour the cooled syrup over the hot baklava, ensuring it seeps into all layers.
- Allow the baklava to rest for at least 2 hours before serving.
- Serve warm or at room temperature, topped with a drizzle of Parmida Chocolate Spread.
