Ingredients

  • 2 cups phyllo dough, thawed
  • 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 cup walnuts, finely chopped
  • 1 cup almonds, finely chopped
  • 1 cup dark chocolate chips
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup Parmida Chocolate Spread

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the finely chopped walnuts, almonds, dark chocolate chips, and ground cinnamon until well combined. Set aside.
  3. Brush the bottom of a 9×13 inch baking dish with melted butter.
  4. Place a sheet of phyllo dough in the dish and lightly coat it with more melted butter. Repeat this layering process, adding a total of 8 sheets of phyllo, each brushed with butter.
  5. Evenly distribute a portion of the nut and chocolate mixture over the phyllo layers.
  6. Add 2 more sheets of phyllo on top, brushing each with butter.
  7. Continue layering, alternating between the nut filling and phyllo sheets, until all filling is used, finishing with 8 layers of phyllo on top.
  8. Carefully cut the assembled baklava into diamond or square shapes with a sharp knife.
  9. Brush the top layer with any remaining melted butter.
  10. Bake in the preheated oven for 45-50 minutes, or until golden brown and crisp.
  11. While baking, prepare the syrup by combining sugar, water, and vanilla extract in a saucepan. Bring to a boil, then simmer gently for about 10 minutes.
  12. Remove the syrup from heat and allow it to cool.
  13. Once the baklava is done baking, pour the cooled syrup over the hot baklava, ensuring it seeps into all layers.
  14. Allow the baklava to rest for at least 2 hours before serving.
  15. Serve warm or at room temperature, topped with a drizzle of Parmida Chocolate Spread.
