Ingredients

  • 1 French baguette, sliced into 1/2-inch thick pieces (about 12 slices)
  • 2 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 large onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • 1 ripe pear, thinly sliced
  • 4 ounces goat cheese, softened
  • Fresh thyme leaves, for garnish
  • Salt and pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
  2. Arrange the baguette slices on a baking sheet and brush both sides with olive oil. Bake for about 8-10 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
  3. In a large skillet over medium heat, add the sliced onions and a pinch of salt. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 15-20 minutes until the onions are soft and caramelized.
  4. Stir in the balsamic vinegar and sugar, cooking for an additional 2-3 minutes. Remove from heat and set aside.
  5. Spread a generous layer of goat cheese on each toasted baguette slice.
  6. Top with a spoonful of the caramelized onions and a few slices of pear.
  7. Season with salt and pepper to taste, and garnish with fresh thyme leaves.
  8. Serve immediately while the crostini are warm.

Notes

  • For a sweeter touch, drizzle honey over the crostini before serving.
