Ingredients
Scale
- 8 slices of crusty bread (such as baguette or ciabatta)
- 8 ounces fresh goat cheese, softened
- 12 fresh figs, halved
- 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
- 1 teaspoon fresh thyme leaves (plus extra for garnish)
- Salt and pepper to taste
- Olive oil for drizzling
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C).
- Arrange the bread slices on a baking sheet and drizzle lightly with olive oil. Toast in the oven for about 5-7 minutes, or until golden and crispy.
- In a skillet over medium heat, melt the butter. Add the halved figs and cook for about 3-4 minutes, until they start to soften.
- Drizzle the honey and balsamic vinegar over the figs, then sprinkle with thyme, salt, and pepper. Cook for an additional 2-3 minutes, stirring gently until the figs are caramelized.
- Spread a generous layer of softened goat cheese on each toasted slice of bread.
- Top the goat cheese with the caramelized figs, ensuring an even distribution.
- Garnish with extra thyme leaves and serve immediately.
Notes
- For a sweeter touch, add a sprinkle of chopped walnuts or pecans on top of the figs before serving.
- Substitute the figs with other seasonal fruits like pears or peaches for a different flavor profile.
