Ingredients

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 large egg yolk
  • 2 medium apples, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup caramel sauce (store-bought or homemade)
  • 1/4 cup chopped pecans (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a mixing bowl, combine the flour, powdered sugar, and salt. Add the softened butter and mix until crumbly. Stir in the egg yolk until the dough comes together.
  3. Press the dough into the bottom and up the sides of a muffin tin to form small tart shells. Prick the bottoms with a fork to prevent bubbling.
  4. Bake the tart shells for 15 minutes or until lightly golden. Remove from the oven and let cool slightly.
  5. In another bowl, toss the sliced apples with cinnamon and granulated sugar until well coated.
  6. Fill each tart shell with the cinnamon-sugar apple mixture. Drizzle caramel sauce over the apples, and sprinkle with chopped pecans if using.
  7. Bake the filled tartlets for an additional 15-20 minutes, or until the apples are tender and the caramel is bubbly.
  8. Allow the tartlets to cool for a few minutes before removing them from the muffin tin. Serve warm or at room temperature.

Notes

  • For a richer flavor, use brown sugar instead of granulated sugar when tossing the apples.
  • Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top of the warm tartlets for an indulgent dessert.
