Description
Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joes are a spicy twist on the classic sloppy joe, combining Southern spices with ground chicken for a flavorful and satisfying meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 lb ground chicken
- 1 bell pepper, diced
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
- 1/4 cup ketchup
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning (adjust to taste)
- 1 tsp smoked paprika
- Salt & pepper to taste
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 4 hamburger buns (toasted)
- Optional toppings: sliced pickles, shredded cheese, or coleslaw
Instructions
- Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced bell pepper and onion. Sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened.
- Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
- Add the ground chicken to the pan. Break it up with a spoon and cook until no longer pink, about 5–7 minutes.
- Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire, Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes to thicken and blend flavors.
- While the chicken mixture simmers, toast the buns in a dry skillet or toaster until golden.
- Spoon the saucy chicken onto the bottom half of each bun. Add your favorite toppings and finish with the top bun.
- Serve immediately with coleslaw, sweet potato fries, or a crisp salad!
Notes
- Use kaiser rolls or brioche buns to hold up better to the saucy filling.
- Want it extra spicy? Add a pinch of cayenne or a dash of hot sauce.
- Make it kid-friendly by reducing Cajun seasoning and adding a little brown sugar.
