Description

Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joes are a spicy twist on the classic sloppy joe, combining Southern spices with ground chicken for a flavorful and satisfying meal.


Ingredients

  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 bell pepper, diced
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can (8 oz) tomato sauce
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning (adjust to taste)
  • 1 tsp smoked paprika
  • Salt & pepper to taste
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 4 hamburger buns (toasted)
  • Optional toppings: sliced pickles, shredded cheese, or coleslaw

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Add diced bell pepper and onion. Sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened.
  2. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant.
  3. Add the ground chicken to the pan. Break it up with a spoon and cook until no longer pink, about 5–7 minutes.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire, Cajun seasoning, smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. Reduce heat and simmer for 10 minutes to thicken and blend flavors.
  5. While the chicken mixture simmers, toast the buns in a dry skillet or toaster until golden.
  6. Spoon the saucy chicken onto the bottom half of each bun. Add your favorite toppings and finish with the top bun.
  7. Serve immediately with coleslaw, sweet potato fries, or a crisp salad!

Notes

  • Use kaiser rolls or brioche buns to hold up better to the saucy filling.
  • Want it extra spicy? Add a pinch of cayenne or a dash of hot sauce.
  • Make it kid-friendly by reducing Cajun seasoning and adding a little brown sugar.
