Description
A rich and creamy butterscotch sauce perfect for drizzling over desserts.
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter
- 1/2 cup heavy cream
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
Instructions
- In a medium saucepan, combine the brown sugar and butter over medium heat. Stir until the butter melts and the mixture is smooth, about 2-3 minutes.
- Gradually add the heavy cream while continuing to stir. Bring the mixture to a gentle boil, then reduce the heat to low.
- Allow the sauce to simmer for 5-7 minutes, stirring frequently, until it thickens slightly.
- Remove the saucepan from heat and stir in the vanilla extract and salt. Mix until fully combined.
- Let the sauce cool for a few minutes before serving. It will thicken more as it cools.
Notes
- For a richer flavor, add a tablespoon of bourbon or rum while the sauce is simmering.
- This butterscotch sauce can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to two weeks. Reheat gently in the microwave or on the stovetop before serving.
