- 1 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup brown sugar, packed
- 2 large eggs
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1 cup chocolate chips
- 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup powdered sugar
- 1 teaspoon lemon juice
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
- Add the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition, then stir in the vanilla extract.
- In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt.
- Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined. Fold in the chocolate chips.
- In another bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, powdered sugar, and lemon juice until smooth and creamy.
- Using a cookie scoop or tablespoon, drop a ball of cookie dough onto the prepared baking sheet.
- Make a small indentation in the center of each dough ball and fill it with about a teaspoon of the cream cheese mixture.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 10-12 minutes, or until the edges are set.
- Let the cookies cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
Notes
- These cookies are best served warm, but can be stored in an airtight container for up to a week.
- For a richer flavor, try adding a teaspoon of espresso powder to the cookie dough.
- You can also substitute half of the chocolate chips with white chocolate chips for a delicious contrast.
