Description
Beef Heart Pozole is a hearty comfort dish that combines tender beef heart with hominy and spices, perfect for a warm meal.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 pounds beef heart, cleaned and cut into 1-inch pieces
- 8 cups beef broth
- 2 cups hominy, drained and rinsed
- 1 medium onion, chopped
- 4 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons olive oil
- 2 teaspoons ground cumin
- 1 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1 teaspoon chili powder
- Salt and pepper to taste
- 2 cups shredded cabbage
- 1 cup radishes, thinly sliced
- 1 lime, cut into wedges
- Fresh cilantro, chopped (for garnish)
Instructions
- In a large pot, heat the olive oil over medium heat. Add the chopped onion and minced garlic, sautéing until the onion is translucent, about 5 minutes.
- Add the beef heart pieces to the pot and cook until browned on all sides, about 8-10 minutes.
- Stir in the cumin, oregano, chili powder, salt, and pepper, mixing well to coat the meat with the spices.
- Pour in the beef broth and bring the mixture to a boil. Reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it simmer for about 1.5 to 2 hours, or until the beef heart is tender.
- Add the hominy to the pot and simmer for an additional 20 minutes. Adjust seasoning if necessary.
- Serve the pozole hot, topped with shredded cabbage, sliced radishes, and fresh cilantro. Offer lime wedges on the side for squeezing over the soup.
Notes
- For a spicier kick, add diced jalapeños or a dash of hot sauce while cooking.
- You can substitute the beef heart with beef chuck or brisket if preferred, adjusting cooking times accordingly.
