Description
A festive and delicious Basil Pesto Cheesy Puff Pastry Christmas Tree recipe perfect for holiday gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 2 sheets of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
- 1 cup basil pesto
- 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
- ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
- Flour (for dusting)
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- On a lightly floured surface, roll out one sheet of puff pastry to smooth out creases. Cut the pastry into a large triangle shape, about 12 inches tall.
- Spread half of the basil pesto evenly over the triangle, leaving a small border around the edges.
- Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese over the pesto layer.
- Roll out the second sheet of puff pastry and cut it into the same triangle shape. Place it over the first triangle, pressing the edges to seal.
- Using a sharp knife, make cuts from the center of the triangle to the edges, about 1 inch apart, to create branches of the tree.
- Twist each branch gently to create a spiral effect.
- Brush the top of the tree with the beaten egg and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
- Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.
Notes
- For a twist, try adding chopped sun-dried tomatoes or olives to the pesto for extra flavor.
- You can also substitute the mozzarella with a blend of your favorite cheeses, such as cheddar or gouda, for a different taste.
