Description

A festive and delicious Basil Pesto Cheesy Puff Pastry Christmas Tree recipe perfect for holiday gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 sheets of puff pastry (thawed if frozen)
  • 1 cup basil pesto
  • 1 ½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 egg (beaten, for egg wash)
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • Flour (for dusting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. On a lightly floured surface, roll out one sheet of puff pastry to smooth out creases. Cut the pastry into a large triangle shape, about 12 inches tall.
  3. Spread half of the basil pesto evenly over the triangle, leaving a small border around the edges.
  4. Sprinkle half of the shredded mozzarella cheese over the pesto layer.
  5. Roll out the second sheet of puff pastry and cut it into the same triangle shape. Place it over the first triangle, pressing the edges to seal.
  6. Using a sharp knife, make cuts from the center of the triangle to the edges, about 1 inch apart, to create branches of the tree.
  7. Twist each branch gently to create a spiral effect.
  8. Brush the top of the tree with the beaten egg and sprinkle with grated Parmesan cheese, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning.
  9. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and puffed.
  10. Remove from the oven and let cool for a few minutes before serving.

Notes

  • For a twist, try adding chopped sun-dried tomatoes or olives to the pesto for extra flavor.
  • You can also substitute the mozzarella with a blend of your favorite cheeses, such as cheddar or gouda, for a different taste.
