Description
Baklava Scrolls with only five ingredients make baking easy and delicious!
Ingredients
Scale
- 1 package (16 oz) phyllo dough, thawed
- 1 cup unsalted butter, melted
- 1 cup finely chopped almonds or hazelnuts
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- 1 cup maple syrup
- 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
- Begin by preheating your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a large baking sheet with butter or cooking spray.
- On a clean surface, lay out a single sheet of phyllo dough and brush it generously with melted butter. Layer four more sheets on top, brushing each with butter as you go.
- In a bowl, mix the chopped nuts with sugar and cinnamon, then sprinkle 1/4 cup of this mixture evenly over the layered phyllo.
- Starting from one edge, roll the phyllo dough tightly into a spiral shape, then twist it gently to form a spiral twist. Repeat this with the remaining sheets and nut mixture.
- Arrange the twisted baklava on the prepared baking sheet, ensuring they have some space between them. Brush the tops with any leftover melted butter.
- Bake in the oven for 25-30 minutes, or until the twists are golden and crispy.
- While the baklava twists are baking, combine the maple syrup with a splash of water in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir until warmed and well mixed, then set aside.
- Once the twists are out of the oven, immediately drizzle the warm maple syrup over them, allowing it to soak in. Let them cool for about 30 minutes before serving.
Notes
- Ensure the phyllo dough is fully thawed before use for best results.
- Feel free to substitute the nuts with your favorite variety.
- Store any leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature.
