  • ½ cup unsalted butter, browned and cooled
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • ½ cup pure maple syrup
  • For the crunchy topping:
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and prepare a 9×13-inch baking dish by greasing and dusting it with flour.
  2. In a bowl, mix together the flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt. Set aside.
  3. In a large bowl, combine the cooled browned butter with both sugars and beat until light and fluffy.
  4. Add the eggs one at a time, ensuring each is fully incorporated before adding the next. Mix in the vanilla extract and maple syrup until smooth.
  5. Slowly incorporate the dry ingredients into the wet mixture, alternating with the buttermilk, starting and finishing with the dry ingredients.
  6. For the crunchy topping, mix together the flour, oats, brown sugar, softened butter, and cinnamon until crumbly.
  7. Pour the cake batter into the prepared baking dish and sprinkle the crunchy topping evenly over the surface.
  8. Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  9. Let the cake cool in the pan for about 10 minutes before moving it to a wire rack to cool completely.
